Not revolutionary by any stretch of the imagination, but a solid companion to the rest of the Twilight series. Certainly, given her tendency to pull her punches in confrontational situations it was good to see Meyer communicate a degree of authorly affection for Bree Tanner's characters, considering that the vast majority are dead upon the story's conclusion. She also didn't shy away from the newborn army's capacity for out-and-out carnage, coming perhaps the closest she's ever gotten to more traditional vampire fiction.
