Yikes

The When in Rome trailer is a prime example of the Goodwill Index being stretched to its limits:

Kristen Bell, Lee Pace, Will Arnett and Anjelica Huston? Good. Unbearably generic-looking rom-com tropes coupled with a January release that practically screams mediocrity? Not so good. Intellectually, I know that cult popularity never bought anyone a swimming pool, but there have to be better ways of making a paycheck than this, right?

The incredible thing to me about this trailer is that, as high as the cliche count is (and it is very high), the writers seem to have missed the meaning of the film's titular cliche. I adore romantic comedies set in Italy (Roman Holiday, Only You, A Room with a View), but WiR looks beyond the pale.

will arnett deserves something fantastic. maybe I will have to write something just for him to star in. or at least wear a short robe in.
